Jamaica Project Aims
The Agency
works with the children and parents in the following ways:

Work with Clients
- Maintains communication links between clients in the United
Kingdom and their families in Jamaica.
- Develops profiles on clients for the United Kingdom judicial
system, assists the family in the absence of the parent and
prepares the family for the client’s return.
- Provides temporary shelter upon return for clients when necessary.
- Prepares welfare packages of necessities for clients immediately
upon return e.g. contact with a social worker, list of social
agencies, as well as food, clothing.
- Develops information kit for assistance and services available
from State Agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations and other
charitable agencies e.g. Food for the Poor, Parish Council,
Health Centre etc.
- Maintains a data bank of these agencies and organizations
located within and around the client’s community.
- Executes timely and immediate mandate of service to children
and caregivers.
- Assesses the impact of drug trafficking and crime in general
on vulnerable persons.
- Identifies new and innovative ways of meeting the diversified
needs of our clients
- Adopts a multifaceted approach to improve the well being
of our clientele.
- Formalizes alliances with State & Private Sector Agencies
for provision of necessary support.
- Advocates and mediates on behalf of clients to guard against
discrimination and alienation.
- Employs available means in the disbursement of goods and
services
- Provides viable alternatives to returnees to prevent recidivism
- Devises methodologies to restore and maintain stable family
life through pre and post return counselling for the family.
- Promotes education as a vehicle through which to eradicate
or reduce drug trafficking and the number of persons involved
in the activity.
- Seeks to empower children, tomorrow’s future leaders.
Prevention
Hibiscus develops programmes and works with other agencies to
implement them in an effort to reduce the illegal transportation
of drugs. The Agency:
- Engages in an Anti-Drug Trafficking, Education Campaigns
in schools and with civic groups and communities.
- Promotes messages through the media for the prevention of
drug trafficking.
- Works with the National Council on Drug Abuse to develop
joint programmes.
- Works with the Social Development Commission in communities
to implement programmes
- Maintains links with Faith Based Organizations and State
Agencies for on-going welfare of the children.
Research
Agency engages in ongoing documentation of activities and programmes,
and has collaborated with various agencies on research activities
related to its work. It facilitates the research interest of students
at the high school and tertiary levels as well as regional and
international organizations.
